Carousel Music: The Blue Danube

Riding a carousel is a simple pleasure, a journey back to our childhood.  Our horse, though made of wood, is a gallant and trustworthy steed.  He jumps and spins to the band organ’s lilting tunes, then brings us safely home again.  We are exhilarated and amused and, for most of us, the ride ends.  But for those who study the history and development of the American carousel, the ride has only begun.  Our wooden horse can take us on a journey to a golden era during turn-of-the-century America and, on its carved wooden sides, we can read a chapter in the story of something we call “The American Spirit.”  — Fraley, Tobin, The Great American Carousel, A Century of Master Craftmanship, p. 11.

It is the dream of several local carousel enthusiasts to bring a carousel to Kingsport.  Not just any carousel, but one with newly carved wooden figures, mostly carved and painted by local artists.  We want the children of the Kingsport area to experience the magic only a carousel can bring.

Help us make the dream a reality.
