Isiah Bell

Internatinal Tenor, Isaiah Bell in concert

Isaiah Bell, Concert Recital

Thursday, November 9, 2017
Renaissance Arts Theatre
7:00 PM

The Kingsport Office of Cultural Arts, in partnership with Engage Kingsport, presents international tenor, Isaiah Bell, in a concert recital entitled The Stranger on Thursday, November 9 at 7 p.m.

Canadian-American tenor Isaiah Bell is an international performer who made his Carnegie Hall debut this year, winning third place in the 2017 OSNY Solo Competition. Most recently, Bell performed with the Nashville Symphony in their production of Haydn’s The Creation.

The concert recital, The Stranger, will be a curated mix of sources with the aim of telling a story through the feelings the pieces evoke rather than through their objective narrative. Bell takes his curatorial stance from a quote by Turkish novelist, Orhan Pamuk, “We don’t need more museums that try to construct the historical narratives of a society or nation: the stories of individuals are much better suited to displaying the depths of our humanity.”

Isaiah Bell’s eclectic recital will include selected works from the classical canon as well as from twentieth century popular music, traditional folk tunes, cabaret and classic musical theatre, original songs and contemporary works from other composers.  The performance will but just over an hour and performed without intermission.

The performance will be held at the Renaissance Arts Theatre located at 1200 East Center Street.  The concert is free and open to the public, but the audience is encouraged to bring a donation of canned food to contribute to the annual Public Works food drive.
